This bamboo is native to Taiwan. Bamboo shoots are edible. The most important characteristic of this bamboo shoot is that its season is different from that of other bamboo shoots. While most bamboo shoots edible in Japan are in season in spring, this bamboo shoot’s season is in summer.

They can be eaten raw as they do not have an acrid taste. I have eaten bamboo shoots in the form of bamboo shoot rice, and it was very tasty and tender.
