The Miyauti Iyokan is a citrus fruit discovered in 1955 by Yoshihide Miyauchi. It’s a bud mutation of the Iyokan orange with superior qualities compared to the traditional variety. These include high yield, less alternate bearing, early maturation by about 20 days, abundant fruiting, larger fruit size, soft flesh with more juice, thin and brightly colored glossy peel, and fewer seeds. In 1966, it was registered as “Miyauchi Iyokan” with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, gaining nationwide attention. Cultivated not only in Ehime Prefecture but also in other regions, it has become widely popular.
